LIC OFS Opens on August 4 as Govt Looks to Sell up to 6.5% Stake. Check Details
The sale includes a 10% retail quota and could raise about Rs 31,000 crore as the insurer moves toward Sebi’s public shareholding rule.
On Tuesday, the government launched a two-day offer for sale for up to a 6.5% stake in Life Insurance Corporation at a floor price of Rs 382 per share.
Department of Investment and Public Asset Management Secretary Arunish Chawla said the sale helps LIC meet minimum public shareholding requirements mandated by Sebi, with the government currently holding a 96.5% stake.
Subscription opened Tuesday for non-retail investors, with retail participation beginning Wednesday; a full subscription of over 82.22 crore shares would generate approximately Rs 31,000 crore for the disinvestment kitty.
The floor price represents a 10% discount over Monday's closing price of Rs 424.35 on the BSE, with the government potentially exercising a 4% greenshoe option after first-day trading concludes.
Under revised timelines, LIC must achieve 10% public shareholding by May 16, 2027, as the Centre works toward its Rs 80,000 crore disinvestment target for FY27.
