LG Display earns industry's first "100% dimming consistency" verification

LG Display's large OLED panels achieved 100% dimming consistency, surpassing LCD technologies that dropped to 43%, confirming OLED's superior pixel-level brightness control.

  • LG Display said in Seoul that all large-sized OLED panels earned the industry's first 100% dimming consistency verification from UL Solutions.
  • Using a shrinking reference-area method, UL Solutions measured dimming by reducing a centered area from 1/10 to 11/1000, 5/1000 and 2/1000, and defines 100% as unchanged max/min brightness, with pixel-level emission maintaining brightness.
  • By comparison, LCD-based panels saw dimming consistency drop from 83% to 43% and exhibited halo effects as small bright details blurred against dark backgrounds.
  • LG Display intends to use the verification to strengthen its large-sized OLED leadership and told customers that OLED's 100% dimming consistency is optimal in the AI era.
  • For content creators and consumers, OLED's peak luminance 4,500 nits and reflectance 0.3% support faithful expression of creators' intent and natural AI-generated visuals.
