TRNC President Tufan Erhürman criticized the Greek Cypriot administration's statement regarding the right of children born from mixed marriages to EU citizenship. Erhürman stated that the issue is a matter of human rights and the prohibition of discrimination, and that a solution would build trust between the parties.

“Granting citizenship to children born from mixed marriages is not a confidence-building measure,” said Konstantinos Letimbiotis, the Government Spokesperson of the Republic of Cyprus, stating that granting Cypriot citizenship to children whose one parent is a Turkish Cypriot and the other a citizen of a third country cannot be considered a confidence-building measure.
