The European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), a key piece of legislation to protect journalistic independence in the EU, comes into effect tomorrow, August 8.
The European Freedom of Press Regulation shall enter into force fully in all EU Member States, beginning on 8 August.
The European Act on Freedom of Press, which is binding on all Member States of the European Union, has entered into force from January 8, 2025.
The European Media Freedom Act, which will enter into full force today, requires EU member states to take measures to ensure pre-established and objective procedures for the independent operation of public service media. Media service providers must publish the names of their beneficial owners and the annual amount of public funding for state advertising.
