Leeds man jailed over 140mph chase ending in roundabout crash
Ashley Parr admitted dangerous driving, drug driving and drink driving after a 140mph pursuit ended when his BMW went airborne over a roundabout.
- Ashley Parr, 35, was sentenced to 16 months in prison at York Crown Court for a dangerous 142 mph police chase that ended with his BMW becoming airborne at a roundabout.
- North Yorkshire Police began the 23-mile pursuit on July 21 last year after a member of the public reported erratic driving on the A166 near Garrowby Hill, prompting Traffic Constable Nick Simpson to signal a stop.
- Prosecutor Brooke Morrison told the court that Parr was more than twice the legal alcohol limit and had traces of cocaine during the 10-minute flight along the A64 and A1, reaching 142 mph.
- Defence barrister Phil Morris described Parr as "remorseful and apologetic" for his "prolonged period of madness," while the court banned him from driving for 44 months and ordered an extended driving test.
- North Yorkshire Police emphasized that "immediate custody" was the only appropriate sentence for such dangerous driving, urging the public to call 999 if they witness similar life-threatening behavior on arterial roads.
