Lebanese army says soldier killed in Israeli attack in southern Lebanon
Israeli strikes damaged a hospital and killed civilians as UN peacekeepers faced new attacks, with Lebanon reporting more than 1,300 deaths in the conflict.
- On Saturday, Sgt. First Class Guy Ludar, 21, was killed by friendly fire during an Israel Defense Forces operation in Shebaa, Lebanon. The Commando Brigade's Maglan Unit was conducting a raid to arrest a Hezbollah-linked suspect.
- This operation was part of the IDF's ongoing ground operations in Lebanon, which began in March to counter Hezbollah. Since then, 11 soldiers have died in the conflict, marking Ludar as the latest casualty.
- An initial IDF investigation revealed one soldier mistakenly identified Ludar and another troop as fleeing Hezbollah fighters, prompting him to open fire. The second soldier sustained serious injuries and was evacuated to hospital.
- Meanwhile, Israeli strikes continued across Lebanon on Saturday, including attacks in Tyre and Bint Jbeil. Lebanese authorities reported at least two girls killed and 40 people wounded in separate strikes throughout the day.
- The war has displaced upwards of a million people and killed more than 1,400, including 54 medics. Indonesia's government slammed the incident as "unacceptable" after UNIFIL confirmed the wounded were Indonesian.
