Le Massif de Charlevoix will close if agreement with union is not reached by Jan. 20

About 300 unionized employees at the ski resort face stalled talks over wages and work conditions, risking closure if no deal is reached by Jan. 20, Le Massif said.

  • On Jan. 20, Le Massif de Charlevoix warned it will likely close for the season if no agreement is reached, and Claude Choquette said the conciliator's framework should be voted on by employees.
  • The collective agreement expired on Dec. 31, leaving the 300 employees to negotiate wages and demands on subcontracting, sick leave, safety, and vacations amid an unlimited strike starting Jan. 2.
  • On Friday, the conciliator invited both parties to submit additional information and union members were informed via an Info-négo bulletin to consider a proposed settlement.
  • Management says continuing the season became unsustainable after employees rejected offers, and artificial snow-making plus operations needed to resume as of Tuesday to ensure safety.
  • Both Groupe Le Massif and the union declined to comment further on talks, and the date of the special general meeting for members to review and vote on the proposed settlement has not yet been set.
