Robert Lazenby won junior boys race walk gold and William Cram took bronze as Cowichan Valley athletes added several top-five finishes.
Cowichan Valley-area athletes competed at the BCSS Provincial Track and Field Championships June 4-6 at McLeod Stadium in Langley. Quw athlete Robert Lazenby won gold in the junior boys 1,500m race walk, while William Cram of Ladysmith Secondary School earned bronze in the senior boys 800m.
Frances Kelsey Secondary School's Charlotte Gough excelled in middle-distance events, placing fifth in the senior girls 1,500m and seventh in the 800m. Shawnigan Lake School's Liam Ramstead finished seventh in the boys 3,000m final and 14th in the 1,500m.
Cohen Bartfai led junior boys with a fifth-place long jump finish, while Cowichan Valley Open Learning's Alica Valastiak took fifth in the junior girls 1,500m race walk. Lily Heppell placed eighth in the Grade 8 girls triple jump.
Skyla Lewis, Heppell, Sophie Johnson, and Mila Norfolk combined for a 21st-place finish in the senior girls 4x400m relay. Later, Heppell teamed with Emily Busch, Arizona Fenton, and Sloan Sharpe to finish 18th in the Grade 8 girls 4x100m relay.
Brentwood College School's Hudson Van Tongeren finished 25th in junior boys 1,500m heats, while Queen Margaret's School results included Joeffrey Tshibangu, who finished 30th in the junior boys 100m, and Ava Heenan, who placed 10th in senior girls 400m hurdles.
