Man Arrested for Allegedly Posting Hit List, Threatening More than a Dozen Pennsylvania Lawmakers
Police say Adam G. Berryhill posted a hit list and violent messages targeting 20 Democratic lawmakers, and he remains jailed without bail.
On May 6, Pennsylvania State Police arrested 42-year-old Adam Berryhill of Lebanon County for making terroristic threats against 20 Democratic state lawmakers after he allegedly posted a 'hit list' and referenced a 'Memorial Day Operation' on X.
According to court documents, Berryhill allegedly called lawmakers 'communist infiltrators' and detailed plans to challenge them legally before resorting to violence. Posts included a firearm image and referenced a 'Memorial Day Operation.'
Several targeted lawmakers alleged they were not notified of the threats until earlier this week, despite law enforcement awareness last month. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro stated his administration is working to establish a better notification system for elected officials.
Legislative leaders and Gov. Shapiro condemned the threats, with Sen. Steve Santarsiero, D-Bucks County, stating: 'We need to understand this is not a Democratic problem. It's not a Republican problem. It is a problem for our society.'
Political violence has spiked in recent years, with threats targeting officials across the political spectrum. Experts warn that divisive rhetoric on social media can amplify tensions, creating an increasingly hostile environment for public servants nationwide.
