Large fire breaks out in west London warehouse, as emergency services declares major incident over fireworks in blaze
A major incident declared as 150 firefighters battle a fire at a Southall warehouse storing fireworks and cylinders, with smoke visible across west London, officials said.
- On Tuesday, a major incident was declared at a fire at a warehouse and retail unit storing fireworks in Southall, west London, burning since this morning on Bridge Road.
- Authorities say the cause is unknown, and the major-incident decision was taken due to stored fireworks and cylinders within the building.
- Fire crews withdrew after videos showed bangs and flashes, while around 150 firefighters continue to tackle the blaze from a distance and crews from Southall, Heston, Ealing fire stations were called 60 times from around 9am.
- A plume of smoke is visible across West London, residents in the immediate area are advised to keep doors and windows closed, avoid the area, and no injuries are reported.
- Because of the complex site layout and size of the fire, Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne said this mixed retail and warehouse space fire is a protracted incident with remote firefighting tactics.
