Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt injures right pinkie while trying to block Thunder's Chet Holmgren
On Tuesday, Los Angeles Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt injured his right pinkie during Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, leaving the game after striking the backboard while attempting to block a dunk.
With 5:51 remaining in the second quarter, Vanderbilt attempted to block an alley-oop dunk by Thunder center Chet Holmgren, swiping at the ball and striking the backboard with his hand.
Visibly in pain, the forward was escorted by trainers to the locker room and did not return to the game, as several Thunder players immediately looked away upon witnessing the injury.
At halftime, the Oklahoma City Thunder led the Los Angeles Lakers 61-53, and the team announced Vanderbilt would not return to the contest.
Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals takes place Thursday, May 7, as the best-of-seven series continues following the injury during Tuesday's opening matchup in Oklahoma City.
