European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde warned that conflicts in the Middle East and recent developments in the Russia-Ukraine war will keep headline inflation "well above" the bank's 2 percent target for an extended period.
"Conflicts in the Middle East continue to create inflationary pressures."
The President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, said on Thursday, 10 September 2026, that the outlook for inflation and the economy of the euro area remained extremely uncertain, after the ECB decided to increase all three monetary policy interest rates by 0.25 percentage points.
