Laetitia Beck has career-low 63 and leads new mom Estrup by 1 shot at ShopRite LPGA

Beck took 25 putts and missed only three fairways as she edged Nicole Broch Estrup by one shot after the opening round.

  • On Friday, Israeli golfer Laetitia Beck shot a career-low 8-under 63 at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway, N.J., taking a one-shot lead. Beck, the first Israeli player in LPGA history, needed only 25 putts.
  • Trailing by one shot, Nicole Broch Estrup returned from 15 months of maternity leave after giving birth to her son, Max. The 33-year-old Dane is competing with Max present this week for family support.
  • Briana Chacon, Arpichaya Yubol, and Polly Mack sit at 65, while Celine Boutier of France and Soo Bin Joo of South Korea are at 66. Defending champion Jennifer Kupcho opened with 74.
  • The field is limited because the U.S. Women's Open takes place next week in Los Angeles at Riviera for the first time. The ShopRite LPGA is one of two scheduled 54-hole tournaments on the LPGA Tour.
  • Beck said the round "felt easy" after making many putts and missing only three fairways on the Bay course. The Israeli player has not won on the LPGA Tour in her 12-year career.
