After the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Board of Governors elected Dr. Zayira Jordán Conde as the new president of the country's largest educational institution, Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz took to social media to criticize the decision.
The Governing Board selected her from among eight candidates who aspired to lead the country's first educational center.
He promised to establish channels of communication with the university community


SAN JUAN – For Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz, the University of Puerto Rico’s Board of Government chose “the worst option” for president with Zayira Jordan Conde. “The UPR Board happened as PR with the resident commissioner for splitting votes... the worst option prevailed! See how long they remain and they will really resolve their business!” Rivera Schatz said in her X account.
For many, this is an appointment that responds to political interests and has very little to do with the well-being of the public institution.
