New York, September 17, 2025—The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns today’s sentencing of journalists Joomart Duulatov and Aleksandr Aleksandrov to five-year prison terms in Kyrgyzstan and calls for their immediate release. Former operators of Kloop independent publication Zhomart Duulatov and Alexander Aleksandrov were sentenced to five years in prison. The journalists' lawyer said the charges were fabricated.
On 17 September, the Pervomaysky District Court of Bishkek found several former employees of the independent Kloop.kg in the case of "Calls for Mass Disturbances." Alexander Alexandrov and a former member of the publication of Joomart Duulat were sentenced to five years' imprisonment each, two publishers were also sentenced to five years with three years of probation.
