Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces group says it has dissolved after merging with the Syrian army
Mazloum Abdi said about 100,000 fighters were absorbed into state institutions, a move that ends the SDF’s role as an autonomous force.

- The SDF served as the United States' primary partner against the Islamic State. Abdi said the force "carried a heavy responsibility during one of the most difficult periods in Syria's history."
- During ceasefire negotiations, Interim Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa promised to restore Kurdish citizenship and education rights, while the government adopted Nowruz as a national holiday and designated Kurdish an official language alongside Arabic.
- Kurds questioned whether the new Sunni Arab-led authorities would provide true representation, while tensions persist as Turkey previously designated the SDF a terrorist organization due to its ties to the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK.
