Kumaraswamy flags delay in land allocation for testing centres in Mandya
Kumaraswamy said nearly 10 months of consultations have not produced a land allotment for the two ARAI facilities, which he said would boost jobs and investment.
- On Thursday, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy wrote to Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, urging immediate allocation of land for two Automotive Research Association of India testing facilities in Mandya district.
- Despite nearly 10 months of meetings and correspondence, the project awaits essential land allocation, which Kumaraswamy described in his letter as 'unacceptable' given repeated consultations and technical assessments.
- ARAI submitted a revised proposal on September 28 requesting approximately 100 acres at Basaralu for the CIE Testing Centre and an additional 60 acres for the EV Testing Centre, which Kumaraswamy called a 'practical approach.'
- Citing paragraph 350 of Karnataka's 2026-27 Budget speech, Kumaraswamy urged Shivakumar to translate public assurances into concrete action rather than allowing the project to remain delayed.
- Establishing these facilities would strengthen Karnataka's automotive ecosystem, foster indigenous technology development and create valuable employment opportunities for youth in Mandya, according to Kumaraswamy.
