Krakow is on the brink of economic Armageddon, and winning the election doesn't necessarily mean Łukasz Gibała will easily take control of the office. Economist Dr. Karol Wałachowski discusses the consolidation of the elites and the biggest challenges facing Krakow's new mayor. "In a sense, these elections are a class struggle."
Łukasz Gibała and Monika Piątkowska have already visited the polls, which they boasted about on social media. Krakow residents have until 9:00 PM to elect a new mayor. Voting is proceeding relatively peacefully, although reaching some polling stations was hampered by the city's half-marathon.
"Voting began promptly at 7 a.m. All district electoral commissions opened their polling stations," Barbara Golanko, director of the National Electoral Office's Krakow Branch, announced at 10 a.m. She added that one incident occurred on Saturday during ballot counting.
Krakow residents are electing their city mayor. Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. Voting will continue until 9 p.m.
