Kraken Trade One-Time Top Prospect Shane Wright to the Predators for Matthew Wood
The player-for-player deal sends 22-year-old Shane Wright to Nashville after his agent pressed for a trade this summer.
On Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Chris MacFarland announced the acquisition of forward Shane Wright from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for forward Matthew Wood in a one-for-one trade.
Drafted fourth overall in 2022, Wright requested a trade following a down season with 12 goals and 27 points in 74 games. Nashville previously selected Wood with the 15th pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
Comparing their NHL careers, Wright has recorded 39 goals and 43 assists in 183 games, whereas Wood has tallied 18 goals and 34 points in 91 games. MacFarland noted the size difference between the two centers.
Kraken GM Jason Botterill praised Wood as 'a skilled player, with high hockey sense,' while MacFarland expressed excitement adding Wright to the Predators' lineup, citing his potential to improve the team's pace.
Both players are in the third year of their entry-level contracts and will become restricted free agents next summer. The teams hope this change of scenery provides a fresh start for both young centers seeking to rebuild their value.
