Comeback Is for Naught as Islanders Hand Wild First Home Loss
Schaefer finished with three points as the Islanders improved to 7-4-2 and won their second straight.
On Thursday, New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer scored his second goal of the game 33 seconds into overtime, securing a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild at Grand Casino Arena.
Finishing their three-game road trip with a 2-1-0 record, the Islanders handed the Central Division-leading Minnesota Wild their first home loss of the season.
Defenseman Adam Pelech scored his first goal in 32 games to give New York a 3-2 lead, while goalie Ilya Sorokin made 22 saves to maintain the margin.
Recording three points in the win, Schaefer extended his point streak to six games, moving into sixth place in NHL history for points by a teenage defenseman with 71.
Following an upper-body injury to Defenseman Ryan Pulock, the Islanders prepare to host the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday at UBS Arena.
