Major Crisp Brand Axes 'Best' Range After 23 Years with UK Factory at Risk of Closure
KP Snacks cites declining demand and export losses for discontinuing vegetable crisps and proposes closing the Uttoxeter factory while other Tyrrells products remain unaffected.
The company is proposing to close the Uttoxeter site where Tyrrells vegetable crisps are manufactured, following a decline in demand, KP Snacks said.
KP Snacks said the decision follows a sustained decline in demand and the loss of key export volumes, while Tyrrells vegetable crisps, launched 2003, marked a long-running product line.
KP Snacks said it will support colleagues at Uttoxeter while opening a consultation and noting other Tyrrells potato crisp ranges are unaffected.
Shoppers reacted angrily online, with posts pleading 'Don't do this, please...' and customers citing the £3 price point and smaller packets as reasons for declining purchases.
Consultations at Uttoxeter will determine any next steps, and KP Snacks said it will explore ways to reduce or avoid redundancies if the proposal progresses.
