Russian authorities on Monday (May said defence forces had repelled four drones heading towards Moscow, days before foreign leaders are due to gather for a military parade on the capital's Red Square.

The attempted attack comes just days before Russia is staging a military parade on Red Square as part of its World War II anniversary celebrations.

Ukraine probably sent armed drones to Moscow. For security reasons, an airport in Moscow had to stop operating for a short time.

This attack on the night from Sunday to Monday took place a few days before the celebrations in Russia on 9 May, symbol of the victory over Nazi Germany in 1945. On this occasion, Russian President Vladimir Putin had offered Ukraine a three-day truce.
