Know Before You Go: Early Voting Reminders, Turnout Expectations
Officials said 42,776 ballots were cast in Bexar County on the first day as long lines and added staff strained polling sites.
Early voting for the Nov. 3 general election began Monday, Oct. 19, across Texas and runs through Oct. 30. Registered voters may cast ballots at any designated location within their county.
Tarrant County officials closed 92 polling sites to save $1 million, leaving 224 open for the midterm election. Some Democrats argued the consolidation amounts to voter suppression.
Texas law requires voters to present one of seven approved photo IDs when voting in person. Those lacking ID may complete a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and present an approved supporting document.
Multiple counties reported record-breaking first-day turnout, with Dallas County seeing 76,079 voters and Travis County reporting 40,777. Analysts interpret these numbers as reflecting high voter engagement.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. statewide. The nonpartisan Election Protection coalition at 866-OUR-VOTE provides assistance with voting issues.
