Man to face trial for attempted murder of British girl in Alps knife attack
A man who allegedly stabbed a British toddler at a playground in the French Alps will go on trial charged with attempted murder, prosecutors have said.
A new judicial step was taken as part of the procedure related to the knife attack on the Pâquier on 8 June 2023, which had caused six injuries, including four young children on the shores of the lake, in Annecy.
In particular, he will appear for "attempts of murder of 13 victims". The man had appealed against this referral to the assizes. But the Chambéry Court of Appeal considers that his discernment was not altered at the time of the facts.
A psychiatric expert concluded that Abdalmasih H.'s discernment was altered, but not abolished at the time of the attack, leaving no basis for preventing man from being tried.
