Demuth, Klobuchar Debate Economic Issues at East Gull Lake Forum
The candidates clashed over taxes, health care and business incentives, with Klobuchar saying her insulin plan could cost up to $180 million.
DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth debated Minnesota's economic policies on Monday at a Minnesota Chamber forum in East Gull Lake, addressing taxes, permitting delays, and workforce development.
At Madden on Gull Lake, the candidates sparred over high taxes and slow permitting processes that have driven businesses to other states, with Minnesota among the highest-taxed states for individuals and corporations.
Klobuchar proposed expanding prescription drug purchasing and creating AI regulations, while Demuth called for "guardrails" on artificial intelligence and said it can "help Minnesota businesses and even detect fraud."
Demuth labeled current policies an example of the "Walz failed status quo," while Klobuchar emphasized fiscal responsibility and said she would add 10,000 new apprenticeships statewide if elected.
The two leaders will square off again Wednesday night in a televised debate on Fox9, with voters facing their choice in 15 days as the gubernatorial race enters its final stretch.
