With only 64.9 percent, SPD leader Klingbeil was confirmed at the party congress in office, a dream result was achieved by the new co-chairman Bas. A change of course of the defeated party is not in sight.

While Bas shines, Klingbeil tumbling: 64.9 percent for the SPD boss and yet it feels like a slap from his own party.
At the party congress of the SPD, the party leader Klingbeil was confirmed in office; the new co-chairwoman was elected Minister of Labour Bas. However, only nearly 65 percent of the delegates voted for Klingbeil. In 2023, he had received more than 85 percent. Bas, on the other hand, received very high approval with 95 percent.
Vice-Chancellor Lars Klingbeil dared the big Social-Democratic balancing act. But at the party congress the SPD boss had to put in a harsh defeat. His new co-party leader Bärbel Bas, on the other hand, satisfied all left longings.
Bärbel Bas is elected SPD chairman with a very good result. Many in the party have high expectations of her. Can she fulfill this?
