Kenya announces 2nd Ebola death, a close relative of the first patient
Authorities say all nine confirmed cases are linked to one cluster, while seven patients remain in isolation and no new infections have been reported.
Kenya recorded a second Ebola death on Friday, the health ministry said, as a 65-year-old woman died in quarantine in Nairobi after developing symptoms.
Authorities traced 135 contacts after a man traveled from Congo and died in Nairobi on October 5, placing all individuals in quarantine to contain spread.
Among nine confirmed cases, two deaths have occurred, the ministry said, with seven patients remaining in two isolation facilities and no evidence of community spread.
Late on Monday, the State Department advised Americans to reconsider travel to Kenya, raising the travel advisory level for the country due to health risks.
Across Africa, Ebola has spread to four countries, marking the widest geographic reach of any outbreak on the continent, while nearly 10,000 people have been infected in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In Kenya, no new cases of Ebola have been recorded on Sunday. A first group of quarantined people have even been able to leave the hospital after 21 days of isolation. After two deaths, seven people are still being cared for, while many others are still waiting to be released from quarantine. For now, the virus seems to be contained, but the authorities are continuing their work on the ground to prevent the spread of the epidemic in Nairobi.
