Nebraska Is Building the 14th Most Homes in the U.S.
UNITED STATES, JUL 19 – Multifamily housing starts rose 4.6% in June, offsetting a 4.6% decline in single-family starts amid a U.S. housing shortage of up to 5.5 million units, industry data shows.
- Recent Bloomberg figures indicate a surge in multi-family unit starts and permits ‘saved the month,’ while housing starts rose 4.6% to 1.321 million in June 2025.
- Chronic underbuilding has resulted in most estimates placing the housing shortfall between 2.5 and 5.5 million units, while 2024 authorizations reached only 1.5 million units.
- Amid stretched timelines, the NAHB Housing Market Index dropped to 32 in June 2025, while in 2024, 13% of projects took more than 13 months to complete.
- Meanwhile, single-family permits fell 3.7%, starts dropped 4.6% and completions declined 12.5% month-over-month.
- According to the Atlanta Fed, consumer inflation expectations hold at 5% for the next year and the Atlanta Fed maintains a 2.4% GDP growth estimate for Q2.
