UK Beats Wake Forest to Advance in Morgantown Regional
Kentucky scored six runs on five hits and advanced to the winners bracket after a wild pitch in the ninth sealed the one-run win.
On Friday, Kentucky defeated Wake Forest 6-5 in the Morgantown Regional opener, advancing to the winner's bracket at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
Wake Forest built a 3-0 lead behind ace Chris Levonas, who allowed just one run and two hits over five innings before the Demon Deacons' bullpen struggled.
Kentucky's four-run sixth inning featured Braxton Van Cleave's two-run double, while Jayce Tharnish stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch by reliever Will Ray in the ninth.
With the victory, Kentucky advances to play the winner of West Virginia and Binghamton on Saturday at 5 p.m., while Wake Forest faces an elimination game today against the Bearcats.
Kentucky head coach Nick Mingione praised the "incredibly talented" teams competing, while Wake Forest coach Tom Walter noted his team's need for better execution moving forward in the NCAA Tournament.
