2 Milligan Students Dead, Others Injured After Crash Involving Cycling Team
On Wednesday morning, a vehicle struck a group of cyclists from the Milligan University cycling team on Highway 19E near Simerly Creek Road in Carter County, killing two people and injuring several others.
Milligan University identified the two students killed as sophomores Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers, while seven victims were transported to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment by trauma surgeons.
"There are no words to adequately describe this level of loss," Milligan said in a statement, while King University expressed deepest sympathies and solidarity with the grieving community.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigation remains ongoing, with Highway 19E closed for several hours while authorities gathered evidence; no charges have been announced as of yet.
Milligan University continues urging students, staff, and supporters to keep the victims and their families in their prayers as officials work to release further details about the collision.
