Tigers’ Kenley Jansen Makes History with 479th Career Save
Jansen passed Lee Smith for third on the career saves list as Detroit won its fourth straight behind an eighth-inning rally.
On Tuesday, relief pitcher Kenley Jansen earned a save as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals 2-1, marking the team's fourth straight win.
Trailing in the eighth inning, the Tigers rallied to score the winning run. Zach McKinstry doubled and eventually scored after a pitching error by Nick Mears.
Shortstop Bobby Witt robbed pinch-hitter Colt Keith with a diving catch in the eighth. In the ninth, Jansen retired Lane Thomas and Starling Marte to secure the save.
With his 479th save, Jansen surpassed Lee Smith for third all-time on the career saves list, trailing only Mariano Rivera with 652 and Trevor Hoffman with 601.
