Ireland's McCabe to Leave Arsenal at End of Season
Katie McCabe rejected Arsenal’s contract offer after 11 years, with Manchester City among clubs tracking the left-back’s free transfer.
On Thursday, Arsenal confirmed that Republic of Ireland captain Katie McCabe will leave the club this summer after rejecting their final offer to extend her contract.
Although Arsenal initially planned to allow her contract to expire, the club reconsidered in recent months; talks continued as recently as Monday but ultimately reached no agreement.
McCabe, who joined from Shelbourne in 2015, departs as a club legend after making 305 appearances and winning every major trophy, including last season's Women's Champions League.
McCabe will make her final appearance for the Gunners on Saturday at Liverpool, with reports linking the 30-year-old to WSL rivals Manchester City as a free transfer.
Her exit follows England forward Beth Mead's departure, as Arsenal looks to lower the squad's age profile while rebuilding for future seasons.
