Kate and William try curling during Team GB visit in Scotland
The royal couple supported community charities and met Team GB curlers ahead of the Winter Olympics, spotlighting Scottish traditions including weaving a record-length tartan scarf.
- On Tuesday, January 20, Prince William, Prince of Wales and Princess Catherine, Princess of Wales visited Stirling and tried curling at the National Curling Academy with Team GB and Paralympics GB athletes.
- Kensington Palace said the visit aimed to spotlight Scottish heritage and community ties, including Radical Weavers’ tartan skills and fundraising for Scotland's proposed Tartan Centre.
- At the handweaving studio, Kate added the first 'inch and a half' to the communal tartan scarf, completing about 16 throws in two or three minutes alongside Radical Weavers students including two Ukrainian refugees and a blind woman in her 80s.
- Following the on-ice session, Bruce Mouat, skip of the men's curling team, said it was "wonderful" and that "they said they would be watching the games, which means a lot to us", while The Gothenburg publican said William's gift "made my day".
- Observers noted the timing as Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, attended his High Court trial against Associated Newspapers in London, about 400 miles from the visit amid broader royal family context.
