The number of babies born in Kaohsiung City in 2025 is expected to drop to 12,453, a further decrease of 3,072 from 15,525 in 2024. This marks the 11th consecutive year of decline since 2015. Kaohsiung City Councilor Wang Yao-yu has suggested increasing the current tiered subsidy system for kindergarten fees, reducing the fee by NT$1,000 for each child, in order to encourage young people to have more children.
