Crews Continue Searching Thompson River for Young Man Presumed to Have Drowned (Kamloops)
KAMLOOPS, THOMPSON-NICOLA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, JUL 31 – Search and rescue teams use aerial and boat patrols in efforts to locate a 23-year-old man presumed drowned after jumping into the Thompson River, officials said.
- Kamloops RCMP confirmed a 23-year-old man is presumed drowned after jumping into the Thompson River from Overlander Bridge on July 30.
- Last month, Jatin Garg’s body was pulled from the Thompson River after a drowning incident more than four weeks earlier, RCMP say.
- Kamloops Search and Rescue’s swiftwater team joined the operation with First Responders around 7:30 pm, deploying aerial and boat patrols in the river search.
- Search efforts resumed at dawn after the man was not found overnight, and the RCMP asked the public to give crews the space needed to operate safely.
- Kamloops Search and Rescue announced it will search both in the water and along the Thompson River’s shores today, following a July 6 incident at Overlander Park when a 27-year-old was swept away retrieving a volleyball.
