Children, 11 and 9, Take Parents' Vehicle and Crash Into Cornfield
Police said the 11-year-old driver and nine-year-old passenger were not injured, and no charges will be laid because both are under 12.
- On Monday, two children ages 11 and nine took their family car for a joyride in Pembroke, crashing it into a cornfield early in the morning, Ontario Provincial Police said.
- An officer on foot patrol in the west end of Pembroke heard a vehicle doing burnouts shortly before 3 a.m. Monday; when police attempted to stop it, the vehicle sped away and was not pursued.
- Police later found the abandoned vehicle at the intersection of Jean Avenue and Tower Road. An OPP canine team searched the area and located the children approximately one hour later.
- Neither the 11-year-old driver nor the nine-year-old passenger sustained injuries during the crash. Authorities confirmed the youths were returned to their parents following the incident.
- As the Youth Criminal Justice Act does not apply to those under 12, officials stated that no charges will result from the incident.
