Hailee Steinfeld Releases New Song 'Magic' From 'Hexed'
The singer’s version keeps the song’s 1980s feel while adding a new pop sheen to the soundtrack of her upcoming animated film.
- On Friday, actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld released "Magic," a cover of The Cars' 1984 hit from the album Heartbeat City, as a new single for her upcoming animated Disney film Hexed.
- The film follows teenager Billie Doe, voiced by Steinfeld, who discovers secret magical abilities that launch her "out of suburbia and into a spectacle-filled journey through a vast witch realm called Hexe," a synopsis states.
- Steinfeld stars alongside Rashida Jones, who voices her mother Alice, with Jodie Foster, Walton Goggins, Henry Winkler, Dan Stevens, and Stephen Fry also in the voice cast; she recorded the track with childhood friend Demitri Lerios.
- Having recently become a mother to daughter Harper in April, Steinfeld said the mother-daughter story feels timely, noting that "nothing compares to when the two loves of my life, acting and music, come together."
- The theatrical premiere for Hexed is set for November 25, 2026, as Steinfeld continues building her reputation for recording music for her film projects, having previously dropped "Dangerous" for the movie Sinners last year.
