Jamie Oliver's Wife Jools Shares Health Diagnosis After 45 'Ruined' Years
She said the diagnoses helped explain decades of anxiety and social struggles, and that she has medication but is afraid to take it.
Jools Oliver, 51, publicly revealed autism and ADHD diagnoses on the Lessons From Our Mothers podcast, marking the first time she has confirmed her specific conditions despite her husband Jamie Oliver disclosing her neurodivergence last year.
After discovering she had ADHD about four years ago, Jools sought an autism assessment upon realizing she shared behavioral habits with her children, prompting her public disclosure.
Describing her experience as "quite draining," Jools said, "It's ruined, so far, 45 years of my life." She announced her diagnoses to friends via her 50th birthday party invitation last year.
Although prescribed ADHD medication, Jools said she is too "scared due to health anxiety" to take it, citing ongoing anxiety struggles that affect her daily functioning.
Research from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London found that 96.51 per cent of autistic people over 60 remain undiagnosed, contextualizing Jools's late-life diagnosis within broader population trends.
