On the eventful second stage of the Criterium Dauphiné from Premilhat to Issoir (204.6 km), the expected winner was Italian Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), who defeated Briton Fred Wright (Bahrain-Victorious) and Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) in a sprint finish. The Italian giant thus took over the leader's yellow jersey, previously worn by Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG).
