Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link passenger service delayed to February 2027
RTSO said the delay follows final testing and safety approvals, with the cross-border line still expected to carry up to 10,000 passengers an hour.
On Thursday, Oct 1, RTS Operations Pte Ltd announced that the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link will not open as planned on Jan 1, 2027, delaying passenger service to February 2027.
Although infrastructure remains substantially complete, RTSO must finalize system tests and trial runs by Dec 31, 2026, before obtaining independent safety certification and approval from Singapore's Land Transport Authority and Malaysia's Ministry of Transport.
The 4km shuttle between Woodlands North Station and Bukit Chagar station will operate eight trains, transporting up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction with a journey time of about five minutes.
Officials describe the link as a 'major component of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone,' aimed at fostering bilateral ties while potentially reducing Causeway congestion by up to 35 per cent.
This postponement adds another chapter to a cross-border rail project first announced more than 16 years ago, which has navigated multiple schedule adjustments and project suspensions since 2010.
