Adult Dead, Child Missing After Elementary School Field Trip to Lake, Sheriff’s Office Says
Authorities recovered one adult dead and continued searching for a juvenile after a fifth-grade field trip incident, officials said.
- On Tuesday, an adult died and a juvenile went missing during a Borlaug Elementary fifth-grade field trip to Lake MacBride State Park when authorities responded to reports of subjects in the water near the Coralville Reservoir spillway around 12:10 p.m.
- Students participated in a School of the Wild field trip at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area when the 'tragic accident' occurred. Responders recovered the adult body from the Coralville Reservoir at 12:43 p.m., roughly half an hour after dispatch.
- A multi-agency response, including the Johnson County Metro Dive Team, searched for the missing juvenile throughout the evening. Road access to the Lake Macbride boat ramp remained closed as of 7 p.m., according to a Press-Citizen reporter.
