  • Born in Gloucestershire, Joanna Trollope was a fifth-generation niece of Anthony Trollope and studied English at Oxford University before working at the Foreign Office and becoming a full-time author in 1980.
  • Among her best-known books, The Rector's Wife, Marrying the Mistress, Daughters-in-Law and City of Friends were translated into more than 25 languages and adapted for television, earning her the OBE and CBE .
