Joanna Trollope, author of over 25 translated novels and recipient of a CBE, died peacefully at 82 at her Oxfordshire home, her family confirmed.
- On December 11, Joanna Trollope, bestselling British author, died peacefully at her Oxfordshire home aged 82, her daughters Louise and Antonia said.
- Born in Gloucestershire, Joanna Trollope was a fifth-generation niece of Anthony Trollope and studied English at Oxford University before working at the Foreign Office and becoming a full-time author in 1980.
- Among her best-known books, The Rector's Wife, Marrying the Mistress, Daughters-in-Law and City of Friends were translated into more than 25 languages and adapted for television, earning her the OBE and CBE .
- She is survived by her two daughters and two stepsons, and James Gill, literary agent, said the news was received with great sadness.
- She rejected the `Queen of the Aga Saga` tag as patronising and her fiction tackled divorce, bereavement, affairs, motherhood and depression, which tabloid critics often overlooked.
