Land Rover Defender 110 Local Assembly Begins In India, Prices Drop By Up To Rs 34 Lakh
Locally built Defender variants cut prices by up to ₹34 lakh, and JLR expects sales to rise 20%.
On Tuesday, JLR India announced local manufacturing of the Defender 110 at its Pune facility, reducing entry prices to ₹99 lakh from the previously imported ₹1.13 crore.
Previously, JLR imported Defenders as CBU units from Nitra, Slovakia; India now becomes the first market outside Europe to locally produce the SUV, fulfilling a pivotal step in the company's "Reimagine" strategy.
With more than 9,000 Defenders already on Indian roads, Managing Director Rajan Amba called the milestone "proud," as local assembly reduces top-end prices by up to ₹34 lakh.
Available in 2.0L petrol or 3.0L petrol and diesel configurations, locally built models include upgraded equipment like Meridian surround sound and 20-inch diamond-turned alloys, with deliveries beginning November 15.
JLR India expects this strategic pricing shift to boost sales volume by 20%, reinforcing the company's commitment to delivering capability while responding faster to market demand.
Land Rover Defender: Jaguar Land Rover has started the local assembly of its best-selling SUV Defender. This powerful SUV will now be produced from the Completely Knock Down (CKD) route. This has reduced the price of selected variants of the SUV by up to 34 lakh rupees.
