JetBlue flight reports striking drone while landing at JFK: Officials
The Airbus A321 landed safely with no damage found, and the Federal Aviation Administration said it receives more than 100 drone reports near airports each month.
A JetBlue Flight pilot reported hitting a drone on Monday while approaching Kennedy International Airport at about 3,000 feet during final descent around 7:15 a.m.
This incident marks the area's second drone-related event in four days, following a Newark-bound United flight's reported sighting on Friday afternoon.
Audio recorded by ATC captured the pilot telling the tower, "Yep, it hit us right, right above the cockpit," while The Airbus A321 was roughly 10 to 12 miles from JFK.
JetBlue confirmed the flight landed safely at 7:21 a.m., and customers deplaned normally after post-flight inspections revealed no damage or evidence of a collision.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating both cases, noting it receives more than 100 drone-sighting reports near airports each month and stressing such activity is illegal.
