Jesse Eisenberg, Julianne Moore bring curtain down on London Film Festival with ‘The Debut’
At the BFI London Film Festival on Sunday, Jesse Eisenberg admitted that winning a Razzie for 'Batman v Superman' damaged his acting career, prompting his shift toward writing and directing.
Eisenberg said he 'couldn't get into studio movie parts' after receiving a Worst Supporting Actor Razzie for playing Lex Luthor, describing acting as an 'unstable, awful' industry where actors fear becoming 'yesterday's news.'
Following that setback, Eisenberg pivoted to filmmaking, writing and directing 2024's 'A Real Pain' and 'The Debut.' He stated that in the arts, 'you have to follow the things that you're being told are liked.'
His latest directorial feature, 'The Debut,' stars Julianne Moore as a timid housewife who finds her voice in community musical theatre. Eisenberg, who also appears in the film, said he based the story on the world he knows.
'The Debut' will premiere in UK cinemas on January 15, 2027, marking Eisenberg's continued focus on directing rather than pursuing studio superhero roles, unlike his earlier work in 'The Social Network.
