Preston Stout of Oklahoma State Wins NCAA Golf Title, Gets Spots in U.S. Open and Masters
Stout finished 14-under 274 and beat Alabama’s William Jennings by one shot to claim his fifth victory of the season.
On Monday, Preston Stout of Oklahoma State won the NCAA individual title at La Costa, shooting a final-round 69 for a one-shot victory over Alabama's William Jennings.
After shooting 65 on Sunday to take the lead, Stout held off Jennings, who rallied with six birdies before missing a crucial putt on the par-4 ninth.
Oklahoma State coach Alan Bratton said Stout "was ready for the moment," and the victory grants exemptions into this year's Open and next year's Masters, provided he remains amateur.
Finishing with a four-day total of 14-under 274, Stout became the 10th Oklahoma State player to win an NCAA title, the most of any school since Matthew Wolff in 2019.
The Cowboys advance to match play seeking a second consecutive team title, while Auburn's Jackson Koivun finished in a tie for 11th after shooting 71 in the individual event.
