JD Vance cites Bernie Sanders while criticizing socialists
Vance said the administration found Microsoft laid off about 6,000 U.S. workers while keeping roughly 6,300 H-1B employees.
On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance announced the suspension of Microsoft and Adobe from the H-1B visa program, alleging systemic abuse. Simultaneously, the administration launched wage-undercutting probes into nine elite universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford.
Vance and Labor Department officials accused these companies of "abusing" visa systems to replace domestic employees with cheaper foreign labor. The administration claims this practice undermines wages and employment opportunities for American workers.
Microsoft laid off about 6,000 American workers while maintaining roughly 6,300 H-1B visa holders, figures Vance cited to argue corporations prioritize profits over worker interests. This disparity anchored the administration's case against the company.
Defending the crackdown, Vance invoked Senator Bernie Sanders' past opposition to open borders, arguing that "socialism" should prioritize domestic workers. He criticized self-described socialists for supporting policies displacing American citizens with foreign labor.
Vance clarified that 99 percent of Americans support high-value immigrants like Elon Musk or AMD CEO Lisa Su. The administration opposes only hiring practices that undercut domestic wages, he emphasized.
