Jax Shines as Díaz Ties Rays' RBIs Record in 5-3 Win over Royals
Díaz tied Tampa Bay’s franchise RBI record with a fourth-inning line drive, and Bryan Baker earned his 20th save after Kansas City closed within 5-3.
On Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3. Pitcher Griffin Jax struck out seven over five innings while Yandy Díaz tied B.J. Upton's franchise record of 447 career RBIs.
The Rays opened the scoring in the third inning when errors by first baseman Jac Caglianone allowed Nick Fortes and Yandy to score. Jonathan Aranda added an RBI single, extending the lead to 3-0.
Kansas City narrowed the gap in the fifth when Carter Jensen and Caglianone scored on consecutive errors by shortstop Taylor Walls and left fielder Chandler Simpson. Josh Rojas homered in the ninth to pull within 5-3.
