At a press conference following a cabinet meeting on the 17th, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama stated that the Japanese government would "take decisive action at any time if necessary" regarding the foreign exchange market, which is currently trading at a weak yen and strong dollar level in the low 162 yen range against the dollar, thus once again warning the market of potential currency intervention.
