Japan, Qatar Drawn Together in Asian Cup Finals
The 24-team draw also put Japan with Indonesia and Thailand as Saudi Arabia prepares to host the tournament for the first time.
In RIYADH, four-time winner Japan was drawn into Group F with defending champion Qatar, Indonesia, and Thailand for the 2027 Asian Cup on Saturday.
Saudi Arabia, which will also stage the 2034 World Cup, will host the 24-team tournament for the first time from Jan. 7-Feb. 5.
Australia faces former champion Iraq, Tajikistan, and Singapore in Group D, while Iran plays Syria and China and Group B features Uzbekistan, Jordan, North Korea, and Bahrain.
Saudi Arabia coach Giorgios Donis said, "When we reach the Asian Cup in our country, we will be ready to reach the final and to win the title."
The Asian Football Confederation hopes the tournament proceeds after the draw's postponement due to Middle East conflict, as South Korea, Vietnam, and the United Arab Emirates await the Lebanon-Yemen match winner.
